Guided Discovery - Students will start by learning/reviewing the basics of Scratch Jr. It is important they understand how to add multiple characters, add commands to each character and how characters can interact with each other.
Homework - Show the students an example of the game they will be creating. Ask them to think about the hardest thing they've learned this year. This can be on a specific topic such as Spanish, Math, History, etc. They will use this to make a game in class.
Creating the Game - Students will create their game in class. To make this game, it would be good to also review using:
Sharing Games - If your iPads allow "air drop", then students can share projects that way. If not, then students can just exchange iPads. Teachers can post the "sjr" files on a website to be downloaded (see example below). When students download it on their iPads, they can select "open in Scratch Jr) to play it.

It's hard to demonstrate to a class how to use an iPad app because they can't see what you are pressing. Here is a good overview of Scratch Jr. It shows adding a background, adding and deleting a character, initializing the start position of your character, adding blocks, starting your program, etc.

Here's a video describing how to add multiple characters.

Computer Game Step-by-Step
You will be using Scratch Jr. to create a computer game. Think of the hardest thing you’ve learned this year in class and turn it into a game to test your friends.
Step 5
Click on the “Plus” to add a new character. You can select from available Scratch characters or draw your own. TIP- To delete a character, press and hold your finger on the character you want to delete until you see a red X. Click on the red X to delete it. For this project you will need to add 1 character that asks a question, 1 character that is the right answer, and 1 or more characters that are the wrong answers. |
Step 6
Select a Trigger |
Step 7
Create a specified message in a speech bubble above the character. Tap where it says “hi” to change the text message. For this project use this block when you want to show a speech bubble above the character with a “text” message that people can read. |
Step 8
Create an audio recording |
Optional
When someone touches an answer, consider making the image of the answer "jump", "spin". or "pop. Add other fun blocks to make your game even more fun.
