Day 1 - Spreadsheets - Data Entry and Calculations
STEP 1: Introduction to Spreadsheets
STEP 2: Demonstrate 4th Grade Pizza Spreadsheet
Open the 4th Grade Pizza Spreadsheet
STEP 4: Entering Data
STEP 5: Demonstrate doing single cell calculations and have students practice
STEP 6: Demonstrate doing multiple cell calculations and have students practice
|
STEP 7: Have students enter Jamestown Population Data
STEP 8: Enter Population Calculation
Show the students how to copy the calculation
END OF FIRST DAY
At the end of the first day, the students' spreadsheet should match the Jamestown Population Handout. |
Day 2 - Spreadsheets - Graphs and What If Scenarios
At the beginning of the second day, the student's spreadsheet should match the Jamestown Population handout. If they were absent or having trouble, they should use the second sheet (called "backup").
STEP 1: General Discussion
This might be a good time to ask students for their observations on the data.
STEP 2: Introduction to Graphing
STEP 3: Jamestown Population Graph
We should generate a line graph because the data represents the population over time (not discrete jumps in population on specific dates) |
STEP 4: What If Scenarios
We are going to analyze the Jamestown Population data and do some “What If” scenarios to see what factors affected the colony.
STEP 5: Share Observations
